Systems analysis techniques are used to construct mathematical model of variation of dissolved oxygen (DO) in body of water; application of these techniques leads to set of ordinary differential equations that can be solved for DO response in one section due to input in any other section; function expressing input-output relationship is shown to be dependent on hydrodynamic nature of stream or estuary; successive use of linear systems analysis leads to analytical relationship between effluent BOD and resulting DO in stream.
