Determination of elastic critical loads
Slope deflection equations for determination of elastic critical loads in frameworks are given in which effects of initial imperfections are included; practicable methods for improving estimate of critical load obtained from Southwell plot involve iteration with recomputation of deformation at different loads or improving agreement between assumed initial imperfections and primary buckling mode; 3 examples to show variation in estimated critical load with trial load in each case are outlined.
