Effect of notches on axial fatigue properties of structural steels
Study on effect of stress concentration on zero-to-tension axial fatigue strength of notched members of 4 structural steels, reported; critical notch severity was found at which transition in behavior takes place; when theoretical stress concentration exceeds critical value, fatigue strength increases; maximum effective stress concentration determined from tests corresponds to critical notch severity which is dependent on material, geometry of specimen, and cyclic conditions of stress; other data.
