Effect of back pressure on consolidation and shear of undisturbed saturated clay
Advantages of adopting back pressure in tests to determine consolidation and shear strength of soils include possibility of estimating test results in effective stress analysis, saturating sample and diminishing negative pore pressure in specimen; pore pressure during shear can be measured correctly, making initial value constant in consolidated-undrained test, shear strength of undisturbed clay obtained by conventional test without back pressure has tendency to be underestimated, compared with actual one. In Japanese with English abstract.
