Model studies of beams resting on silt subgrade
Investigations of pressure distribution under beams of different stiffness resting on subgrade of compacted micaceous silt; large scale models of steel beams equipped with strain gages were loaded by various combinations of concentrated vertical loads; bending moments, shearing forces, and reaction pressures of soil were evaluated from recorded strains; analysis of test results shows that subgrade exhibits behavior similar to that of elastic solid.
