Study of shear strength of saturated undisturbed clays; validity of Coulomb's law for various undisturbed, completely saturated clays was checked experimentally; difference observed between results of drained and consolidated undrained tests with pore-pressure measurements is due to experimental procedure and is reduced by simple correction concerning dilatancy effect.
