Tests of concrete pavements on crushed stone
Full-size concrete pavement slabs were built on clay subgrade and on 3 thicknesses of dense-graded and open-graded crushed stone subbases; static loads were applied at several positions on each slab and resulting slab strains and deflections, and subbase and subgrade pressures, were recorded for both flat and curled slabs; contribution of subbase to load capacity of slab was estimated, greater capacity being attributed to system that developed lower strains and deflections.
