Compositional variations associated with carbonate aggregate reactions
Study of changes in composition of aggregates and cement pastes by placing cubes of various aggregates in cement paste bars and reacting them in water bath at 130 F for 3-mo period; chemical and X-ray analyses made on samples taken at specified intervals across aggregate into cement paste; results indicate that carbonate aggregate reactions represent attempt of aggregate to come into equilibrium with high pH environment of concrete.
