Flexibility of clay and cracking of earth dams
Method for calculating critical tensile strains in earth dam as result of differential settlements along axis of dam; comparisons between computed and observed behavior of 4 dams and one test embankment indicate that theory and laboratory tests can be used to predict cracking potential with accuracy that is satisfactory for practical purposes; effects of molding water content and compactive effort on flexibility of clay.
