Problem of inelastic lateral buckling of steel wide-flange beams is treated as extension of classical elastic buckling solution; method is developed for case of equal end-moments about major axis of cross section, and for simply supported lateral and torsional boundary conditions; numerical work for 4 representative wide-flange cross-sections was performed and results are represented as nondimensional critical length-vs-critical moment curves; simplified analytical method is given, and analytical results are compared with 2 empirical design equations; straight line transition equation proposed.
