Rhyolite tuff from Mojave Desert is similar to pozzuolana used by Romans; this type of material, ground to 200 mesh, was used as substitute for manufactured cement in construction of Los Angeles aqueduct, usually to extent of 50 per cent by volume; in one deposit in Fresno county, 2 mi. northeast of Southern Pacific terminal at Friant, about 98 per cent of mine run pumicite will pass 325 mesh screen without other milling than "spanking" in revolving cylinder.
