Tests made at U. S. Bur. of Standards are claimed to have demonstrated columns made from concrete which does not spall under fire and provided with 1 1/2-in. of protective concrete uniformly over reinforcements are capable of withstanding extremely severe fire of four hours' duration, and that two inches of reinforced protective concrete is sufficient when concrete has tendency to spall.
