Proposed recommendations are exclusively concerned with danger of initiation and propagation of brittle fracture in non-normalized steel structures, and they deal with residual stresses arising from fusion welding, rolling, and service, as well as with changes occurring in steel due to strain hardening and aging, and with effects of notches and cracks; choise of material for tension members is also treated.
