Precipitation of iron in aerated ground waters
Efforts were made to determine factors which govern kinetics of iron precipitation so that more rational approach could be applied to engineering design of reaction basics in iron removal plants; rate of iron precipitation was measured in aerated Illinois ground-waters having equilibrium pH values in range of 7.5 to 7.8 and alkalinities in range of 355 mg per 1 to 610 mg per 1 as CaCO3; rate was found to vary widely; it was possible, however, to relate rate of iron precipitation to alkalinity and hydroxyl ion concentration.
