Cooling tower shells of reinforced concrete
Cooling tower shells can be made more economically in reinforced concrete than in wood or as steel structures with outer skin; reinforced concrete shells for natural draft, and for large forced draft cooling towers, are usually in form of surfaces with rotational symmetry, whose manufacture requires expensive shuttering; use of prefabricated components in reinforced concrete improves dynamic characteristics of cooling tower without noticeably increasing power requirements.
