Behavior of prestressed concrete structures during Alaskan earthquake
Experiences with prestressed structures in Anchorage, Alaska, during Mar 1964 earthquake are discussed; of some 28 structures employing precast, prestressed elements, five suffered partial or total collapse; of these, two were still under construction and had not yet been tied together to resist earthquake force; sixth structure involving post-tensioned lift-slap construction also collapsed; direction that must be taken in detailing structures and their connections in earthquake areas are re-emphasized.
