Hydraulic model investigation of Siphon Bellmouth
Earth dam under construction in Malay will create reservoir having capacity of 650 million gallons, surface area of 3.05× 106sq ft at top water-level of 1619 ft; flood water will be discharged from reservoir by bellmouth spillway and tunnel leading to stilling basin downstream of dam; three principal aspects of hydraulic model investigation of air-regulated siphon are described; study was carried out to determine dimensions of air-regulated siphons required to discharge maximum flood of 39,000 cu sec, to study and improve hydraulic performance of proposed siphons, to measure pressures occurring within them at number of discharges, and to investigate vibrations of hoods of siphons.
