Movement and equilibrium of moisture in porous media
Tests of sand columns were carried out to study equilibrium of moisture in sand above water table at constant temperature and without evaporation at upper face of column; amount of water pumped or drained by columns until they reach equilibrium with water table, distribution of moisture content and of pore water pressure in sand column showed that at equilibrium conditions, moisture profile for vertical columns corresponds to hydrostatic distribution of pore water pressure; results make it possible to calculate equilibrium moisture distribution above water table from suction curve of material.
