Consolidation of soft clay -- New consolidation theory and its application
New generalized equations of consolidation are derived to replace Terzaghi equation for one-dimensional consolidation of clay; it was discovered that, in case of permeability and compressibility varying proportionally during consolidation, equations given hold for compression strain, not for excess pore water pressure; example calculations are given using further generalization of consolidation theory; field consolidation experiment carried out at reclaimed site in Harbor of Osaka, for consolidating and stabilizing soft fill clay by draining from underlayed sand mat, is described.
