Influence of disturbance in evaluating results of in situ vane shear tests in clays is examined; influence of other factors, such as non-homogeneity of soil mass and mode of failure induced by vane apparatus, are also examined and recommendations are made concerning testing methods and interpretation in order to take such factors into account.
