Effective stress in partially saturated soils
Differences between effective and intergranular stresses in saturated and unsaturated soils are demonstrated; static approach of generalized effective stress law of partially saturated soil is proposed and limitations of A.W.Bishop's approach are critically reviewed; investigation shows that sudden shear failure is actuated by collapse of air water menisci.
