Reconditioning of collapsed Australian hardwoods
Many Australian hardwoods are particularly subject to severe irregular shrinkage, known as collapse, and resulting in considerable change of shape in cross-section; highhumidity treatment alone is not sufficient to restore rectangular cross-section; by subjecting to saturated atmosphere at temperature of 212 deg. Fahr. collapsed timber swells rapidly, regaining its shape and dimensions after few hours' steaming. Technical note issued by Munitions Supply laboratories, Department of Defence.
