Ice diaphragm aids in placing concrete under water
In cutting off salt water in deep well, concrete was lowered through 2100 ft. of water, in steel casing, 12 in. in diam. and about 12 ft. long; two pins were placed across bottom of casing and piece of ice about 1 ft. thick was trimmed to rest on pins and stop up bottom tightly.
