Recently street grades were lowered 4 or 5 ft. and 24-in. main had to be lowered for distance of 300 or 400 ft. in one stretch, and under pressure of 90 lb. without interrupting service; trench excavated below main, leaving bent of soil about 2 ft. wide near bell end of each pipe; supporting bents lowered 2 or 3 in. at a time until entire line was down to grade.
