Tunnel of East Bay Municipal Utility District, Oakland, Calif., 18, 004 ft. long, with fall of 12.89 ft. from east to west; driven in medium ground, with some soft ground; 12 by 12 ft. in rough, with finished concreted section 9-ft. horseshoe and invert; cost about $97.30 per ft., or 65 cents per cu. ft. of excavation; flood in tunnel was followed by flow of methane gas and explosion; technical and dimensional details are given.
