Rational method for determining amounts and distribution of soil reactions developed around shield driven tunnel lining is presented; thrust, shear, and moment produced at support are determined; formulas and tables prepared, permit deflections produced at various points of lining under combined influence of active loads and soil reactions to be expressed as simple product sums; method applied to actual case, and values obtained for dimensions of lining.
