Improvement in Armor coat construction as developed in highway district
California specifications require that no bituminous binder be spread when temperature is less than 65 F to insure that hot asphalt penetrates entire depth of screenings; district experimented with splitting spread of 3/4 in. × 3/8 in. screenings into two courses, with thought that this would insure adequate coverage of screenings with asphalt, even though air temperature was below specified 65 F; results are reported.
