Cleveland suffers worst fire catastrophe in history
On Oct 20 1944, largest of four containers used by East Ohio Gas Co, for storage of liquefied natural gas gave way; contents regasified and ignited, doing considerable damage to adjacent buildings and dwellings; two of liquid gas tanks remained intact and 2,000,000 cu ft gas holder in masonry tank withstood heat of fire.
