Considers sidewise buckling of I-beams under different loadings and differing kinds of end fastenings; calculation of critical values of maximum stresses, with tabulated results; by use of these tables, necessary reduction in working stresses can be easily calculated; general method used in solution of problem; method of calculating critical loads beyond elastic limit; calculations show that actual safety of I-beams is less than that indicated by approximate formulas now in use.
