Laser aligns 9-mile submarine pipeline
Construction of offshore sulfur mining facilities on platforms 7 mi off Louisiana coast using laser transit to gain speed and accuracy in laying pipeline to deliver liquid sulfur from new mine to its shore terminal; pipe line fabricating yard, 250-ft by 3000 ft was specially built on shore to assemble 2500 ft pipe line sections; LT-2 transit was established; requiring 125 w of 115-v a-c power, Transit-lite instrument projected narrow beam of single-frequency red light, visible day or night as constant backsight by dredge operators.
