Centrifugal casting of drill bit cones
Experimental centrifugal casting machine was used; four typical types of bit cones were tested, with study of several variants of casting technique and of different sets of production tools; optimum mold rpm, metal pouring temperature and total cast hardening times were arrived at; casting precision, chemical analysis, and structural and mechanical properties of specimens were determined; these cones show 7 to 40% better performance and 12 to 47% greater speed than cones fabricated by stationary mold casting, when tested under identical bottom-hole conditions. (see also English translation in Chem and Petroleum Eng n 6 June 1967 p 489-92)
