Dynamic analysis and response of aircraft arresting systems
Arresting "gear" consists primarily of cables and pulleys for engaging landing airplane and transmitting arresting forces to energy dissipator, arresting engine; arresting systems are used on board aircraft carriers and also on land; differential equations for aircraft displacement and for cable elongation solved by phase-plane graphical methods; studies on effect of varying frontal-shape and rise-time energy dissipation function, initial cable tension, deck pendant length, and mass of moving parts in arresting engine.
