Channel Tunnel Railway will leave existing main line from London to Dover at point 3 mi on London side of Folkestone, and will proceed over open country to foot of hills just east of Folkestone, where each line will pass into separate tunnel constructed in lower chalk stratum; outcrops at this point; total length of railway will be 44 mi; practicability of tunnels; estimated cost; proposed Channel tunnel shown in drawing.
