British experimental pile at Harwell
Construction and composition of B EPO, larger of two piles at Atomic Energy Research Establishment; it is graphite moderated, air cooled pile with critical loading of 28 tons of uranium metal, and full uranium load of 40 tons, giving rise to excess reactivity which can be used for producing isotopes or for experimental purposes. (See also Engineer v 191 n 4969 Apr 20 1951 p 508-9; Engineering v 171 n 4447 Apr 20 1951 p 464-5)
