Substitution of aluminum for steel in skips and cages reduces weight 50%; aluminum corrodes around steel rivets; Alcan alloys 16, 17, 23, 26, 55, 65, 72, 75 were tested; 65S-T performs much better than 17S-T; 26S-T is poorest; aluminum rivets and cladding improve corrosion resistance.
