A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
More than 200 mi of median barrier were installed on highest volume freeways in California since 1959; two types of median barrier are cable chain link barrier and double blocked-out median barrier; they were installed to prevent cross-median head-on accidents; study was initiated to determine effect of installation on all types of accidents; construction and maintenance costs of two barriers were also studied; cost analysis revealed that beam barrier is more expensive to install and that cable barrier is more expensive to maintain.
