"Headland-bay" beach is defined as beach lying on lee of headland subjected to predominant direction of wave attack; such beaches characteristically have seaward-concave plan shape; increasing radius of plan curvature with distance from headland suggested testing logarithmic spiral as approximation to shape of headland-bay beaches; four natural beaches were selected for testing goodness of fit to log-spiral approximation; computer was programmed to generate best fitting log-spiral to each shoreline curve; results ranged from excellent to good.
