Samples of stream sediment were collected at half-mile intervals along all drainages in three areas in northwestern Montana -- Yaak River area in Purcell Mountains and Star Meadows and Hog Heaven areas in Salish Mountains; total project area was 818 sq mi, and 1284 samples were collected; samples were analyzed for total heavy metals by citrate method and for copper, lead, and zinc (individually) by pyrosulfate-fusion method; few selected samples were analyzed for beryllium and molybdenum.
