Rigid foundations subjected to overturning moments
Three methods of estimating angular deflections of rigid foundations are discussed; first method assumes that stress distribution in subsoil is similar to stress distribution in semi-infinite elastic isotropic solid and that deflection can be obtained by calculating compression of finite number of soil layers below foundation; in second method subsoil is considered to be semi-infinite elastic isotropic soil and average tangent modulus and Poisson's ratio is used for determination of angular deflection; third method is based on determination of coefficient of subgrade reaction by means of plate bearing tests.
