Architect of new contemporary home in Pittsburgh, Pa, faced problem of designing for narrow lot size while trying to achieve spacious, airy, modern style; particular problem area was central hall from which doors and passageways led to various rooms of house; to control area, skylight was cut along length of ceiling; when daylight pours through skylight, area is bright, cheerful and airy; lighting problem lay in matching this feeling at night; solution found is described.
