Flow measurement techniques for hydraulic dredges
Two types of systems have been developed; one uses all-pneumatic instrumentation, other uses all electric instrumentation; first cost of electric system is approximately four times that of pneumatic; electric is more complex and generally beyond maintenance capabilities of dredge personnel; pneumatic systems use instruments that sense differential pressures at purge taps in pipe line and deliver pneumatic signals in ISA standard 3 psi to 15 psi signal band; electric system uses especially built large magnetic flow meters to produce velocity signal and radioactive density gage; pneumatic and electric computation is used in respective systems.
