Tests and safety-measures for concrete applied to gravity dam of Lohmuehle (Luxemburg); horizontal cracks were detected on downstream faces of dam after filling; safety measures, such as waterproofing of upstream face with polyester compound, concrete drainage, and installing prestressed tie rods in crack zones, were taken to avoid risk of sliding due to cracks; laboratory tests indicate that cracks were caused by impalpable film on aggregate surfaces reducing tensile strength of concrete, thermal effects of curing accelerators, and high shrinkage due to excess of mica in sand.
