Two examples of precast shells in dam construction
Report on two cases in which precast shells were employed in dam construction is concerned with dam facing units and precast dam; facing unit described was designed with its face dimensions of 2.47×2.47 m and fits into grid of 2.50×2.50 m; geometrical shape of shell units is cross vault; generatrices of cross vault are straight lines; shell thickness is 4 cm and edges are formed by beams; movable anchor is used for anchoring facing units to dam proper; it consists of 26 mm diam prestressing rod of St 60/90 steel with thread rolled on at both ends; preliminary comparison indicates that dam with precast shells only requires about one third of amount of concrete otherwise required for gravity dam.
