Formwork for Cruachan dam in Argyll, Scotland
Massive buttress type dam is 1006 ft long and 163 ft high; 31,700 cu yd of rock were excavated to form its foundations and it contains 118,000 cu yd of concrete; dam was constructed in 20 blocks, each separated by contraction slot 6 ft wide, 11 buttress and 9 gravity blocks, with 4 of gravity blocks being of buttress construction on one side; shutter forms used on project, anchorages, lifting facilities for forms, concreting and ancillary work.
