Manicouagan 5 Dam
Length is 4200 ft along crown, and maximum height is 705 ft; dam consists of five arches of 250-ft span on right river bank, 540-ft central span, and seven 250-ft span arches on left bank; because of large horizontal rock fracture and fissures extending to depth of 150 ft, foundation work required extensive excavations; different design methods applied and results obtained are discussed; results of hydrostatic pressure tests performed on scale models are reported. (See also n 204 Apr 1965 p 34-9, n 205 June p 46-56)
