Three-dimensional photo-elastic stress analysis of constant thickness cylindrical dam under hydraulic loading
Results of experimental stress analysis on model dams made from synthetic polymer, and set in valley of same material are given in non-dimensional form in which separate principal stresses are expressed as ratio of maximum water pressure at base of dam; actual values of stress in kg/sq cm, corresponding to dam 30 m high, are given; method of testing is described, transfer of results from model to prototype is discussed, and some comment is made on principal features of results.
