A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Philosophy of service life in design of culverts has changed over years; with improvement and enlargement of our highway system, culvert costs are significant and service life of these structures deserves attention of designers; durability of culvert materials, flood damage and construction methods affect life of culvert; evaluation of service life, hazards and delays to traffic, and costs of construction, replacement, and maintenance; cost analyses and use of comparable alternates on bid schedules are two methods proposed to obtain economical culvert; field observations of performance of culvert materials and methods of culvert selection are examined.
