Evaluating tensile strength of concrete
It is noted there is general disagreement as to which test determines "true" tensile strength of concrete; previous investigations, direct tension test, modified direct tension test, and indirect tests are considered; conclusions indicate that true tensile strength of concrete can be obtained by applying appropriate correction factor to reported test value obtained from any of several common tension tests, that in practice, true tensile strength of concrete can only be obtained directly by modified (no eccentricity) direct tension test; these aspects are discussed.
