Observations on old reinforced concrete members with respect to concrete carbonation and reinforcement corrosion; study of old structures revealed that protection against corrosion can be assured for indefinite period of time as long as well known rules, especially with respect to obtaining dense concrete structure, are obeyed; porous structure results in early reduction of concrete's basicity in outer layer and thus to reduction of protection against corrosion; local flaws or wide cracks lead to noticeable corrosion within few years.
