Membrane action in flexure of rectangular plates with restrained edges
Plastic analysis is applied to evaluation of membrane action in transversally loaded reinforced concrete slabs with edges restrained against lateral movement; relations of large deflection theory of flexure together with yield condition, appropriate for reinforced concrete slabs, are used to obtain load-deflection curves both in compressive and tensile membrane action; membrane action is found to influence considerably actual carrying capacities of slabs; developed method yields continuous transition from compressive membrane response to tensile one.
